Australian owned Santos Limited has donated US $200,000 through the Oil Search Foundation to support relief activities in the highlands of Papua New Guinea that were devastated by a recent 7.5 magnitude earthquake.
The Foundation, working together with Oil Search and other first line responders to the earthquake disaster to provide relief on the ground as well as working with the Hela disaster committee and supporting the Hela Provincial Health Authority.
“The Foundation is pleased to be working with partners like Santos” said Mr Gerea Aopi, Director OSF Board.
Mr Aopi thanked Santos for their generous donation which will be used to support the direct
delivery of aid including food, water and shelter to the impacted communities. He said the Foundation will provide a report to Santos on how funds are used.
Oil Search Foundation is currently partnering with Santos on other projects such as the construction of an Accident and Emergency Building at the Hela Provincial Hospital.
Santos donated US $1m toward this project which is expected to be completed by end of 2018.
Mr Aopi said that “a strong partnership approach has seen relief efforts reach over 70,000 people in more than 80 remote villages since the initial earthquake. This donation will allow us to
continue support efforts.”
Working with Oil Search, the Foundation is able to ensure donors that 100% of their relief donations will be used to purchase much needed supplies that will reach affected communities.
Oil Search Foundation has a strong reputation for delivering programs in Papua New Guinea and has been the recipient of a number of large donations and grants.
